Wedding-season Must-haves

How does it feel to reminisce about the good old times from your childhood on rare occasions? Especially ones that revolve around the lip-smacking 90's indian candies! We're sure it brings back your smile even on the gloomiest days.

Candies can be nostalgic because they are often associated with happy memories from childhood or special moments in the past. Eating a particular candy may remind someone of a specific event or person, and the taste and texture of the candy can trigger vivid memories of the past.

Check out these fan-favorite Indian sweet treats that will make your hearts swell with nostalgia.

1. Tamarind or ‘Imli’ candy

From kids to grandparents, it's no surprise that every generation equally loved this SuperStar - so much that it was a staple at homes. We have fancy chocolates today, but seriously, who would've thought of making a quick bite out of tamarind - that was only used in chutneys and sauces until then.

As we grew older, so did the imli candies and soon, newer variants were introduced such as spicy ones. But, one thing remains - once we opened a box of these, it was a Herculean task to put them away for all of us.

2. Kaccha Mango Bite

This one needs no introduction - kaccha aam ka xerox is what it truly was! Every birthday kid’s favorite to distribute to friends and one that didn’t burn a hole in the parents’ pocket as well. Raise your hand if you ever tried to convince the photocopy bhaiyya to get a xerox of your kaccha mango bite.

To this day, the memories of the sweet and tangy candy doesn’t fail to take us back to our naughty days. In addition, Kaccha Mango Bite was often marketed as a healthier alternative to other types of candy, as it was made with natural ingredients and contained no artificial flavors or colors

3. Hajmola

Well, before we get into the Hajmola debate, one thing for sure is whether you loved or hated it, this candy was sure to leave quite a mark in your childhood with its distinct taste. No doubt, its fans are loyal till this day!

What makes Hajmola stand out from the rest is its blend of traditional Indian herbs and spices, such as black salt, cumin, and ginger, which are known for their digestive properties. Which other candy can you think of that you were allowed to have when your stomach wasn’t feeling good as a kid?

The chewable tablet that is meant to be consumed after a meal, making it a convenient and easy-to-use digestive aid. All these factors blended in traditional ingredients, diverse flavors, and convenient format make it unique.

4. Cola Candy

This one comforted us when our mums wouldn't let us have Cola in the winters. Cola candy typically had a sweet, fizzy flavor that was reminiscent of the taste of cola, which almost all of us craved for. Also, not to mention an affordable alternative to quench your thirst too!

How many of you recall melting pellets of it in soda to make a drink? A unique and delicious treat that has captured the hearts and taste buds of many people around the world. We were the OG MasterChefs.

5. Pass Pass Pulse

Pass Pass Pulse was a type of candy that was popular in India and was known for its unique combination of sweet and sour flavors. What made Pass Pass Pulse unique was the presence of a tangy filling in the center of the candy, which gave it a burst of sour flavor that was balanced out by the sweet outer shell.

The candy came in a variety of flavors, including raw mango, guava, and tamarind, which adds to its appeal.

There’s a splash of sentiment everytime we recall our memories from childhood and a majority of them are tied to the above mentioned and many more of such 90s Indian candies. You may be disappointed that some candies may no longer be widely available, which can add to their nostalgic value. When someone discovers a candy from their childhood that they haven't had in years, it can transport them back in time and remind them of simpler, happier times. But, we promise to bring to your doorstep both the memories and taste. Shop and Shoppre promises to ship them!
